Bear with me on this one. I find that inspiration to write in my WordPress blog strikes me at the strangest times. I do my best to capitalize on it whenever it hits. Here are some ways I do that. Maybe they’ll help you too.
Write in the car.
Bring your laptop in the car if you’re going somewhere 30 minutes away or further. Obviously, you’ll have to have someone else drive. But you can write in your WordPress blog offline, save some drafts, and hit the publish button later.
Lying in bed at night.
Most of us have tossed aside the late night book and replaced it with some glowing rectangle time—smartphone or tablet browsing on Facebook, Reddit, you name it.
Replace some of that Facebook time with the WordPress app. Write out some new post titles and a few introductory sentences. Save them as drafts and come back to them in the morning.
Voice memos in the car.
Driving yourself? Alone in the car (or with someone who won’t mind or can contribute with you)? Open your Voice Memos app (or whatever its Android counterparts are called) and start rambling. The creative juices can flow while your primary attention is focused on driving. Record the whole stream of consciousness and go back to listen to it when you get there.
There’s some science behind this. It’s why your best ideas come to you in the shower—your conscious focus is elsewhere, which frees up your “back of your mind” gears to turn and turn. Before you know it, voila. A great idea.
